Sack Lunches And Thanksgiving Preparations

Edible centerpieces for the Community Thanksgiving Meal.
We handed out 215 sack lunches today at The Wednesday Community Meal since we were unable to serve in Kempton Hall due to it being set up for Trinity Episcopal Cathedral's annual Community Thanksgiving Meal.

In addition to the sack lunches that included turkey sandwiches and homemade chocolate chip cookies, we served cups of hot soup and drinks.

Luckily the weather was nice, no rain and in the mid 60's, so our guests were comfortable eating outside. And, as always, they were kind and understanding about the change in service and many said they were looking forward to returning for tomorrow's big meal.

In addition to preparing and serving the sack lunches, community meal volunteers helped with the Thanksgiving preparations by arranging centerpieces, filling candy dishes and making gravy.

I am so thankful for all the volunteers who work so hard each week. They are a blessing!

One of my jobs today was making gravy. Standing on a stool makes it so much easier to whisk. Plus, it's nice for once to be the tallest person in the kitchen.

Sack Lunches And Thanksgiving Preparations

Our dedicated young volunteers who are always a pleasure to work with - Maya, Eleanor, Elise, Ava, Ian, Quinn and Colin.

We handed out sack lunches at the Wednesday Community Meal today because the kitchen and dining room were being used to prep for the Thanksgiving Community Meal at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral tomorrow.

We also had the help of some dedicated young volunteers who were on break from school. In the sack lunches were turkey and cheese sandwiches, juice, chips, cookies and an orange. Because of the cold weather we also decided to serve cups of hot soup.

In addition to preparing the sack lunches, the volunteers helped assemble fruit centerpieces and candy dishes for the Thanksgiving tables. And, we got the gravy going for the meal by making a thick gravy base that we can add turkey juices to tomorrow.

Volunteer Karen helped us get the gravy started for tomorrow's Thanksgiving meal at Trinity.
It takes a lot of work, volunteers and donated cooked turkeys to pull of such a large event but it's always worth it because it's a treat for the wonderful people we serve.

We handed out 294 sack lunches today.

Turkey Cookies Are Coming

I'm getting set to decorate turkey cookies for Thanksgiving.

The undecorated cookies look like pale blobs but hopefully with some creative decorating they'll come to life. I wish I could have found a cookie cutter with more detail but I'm up for the challenge.

I've been sketching and trying to figure out a design.

Stay tuned.....
