The Truth About Cranberries

When I buy dried cranberries, I always look for the word "whole" on the package.

Most dried cranberries on the market are just the dehydrated outside of the berry with added sugar or sadly in lots of cases, high fructose corn syrup.

You see cranberry companies have figured out that they can extract the juice from the berry and then dry the flesh of the juiced berries so they make money twice from one fruit.

This is good for them but not for the consumer. Nutritionally these dried cranberries are close to candy albeit with a bit more fiber.

A picture is worth a thousand words so take a look at this:

Look for the word "whole" when you buy dried cranberries. Cranberries are tart so be aware that there will be added sugar. Look for real sugar in the list of ingredients, not high fructose corn syrup.
